ignition coil bracket type 4 motor
Posted by: Crankster - 10-03-2024, 10:45 AM - Forum: Engine & Transmission - Replies (4)

Hi all, just went looking for the ignition coil bracket and discovered yet another piece that was missing from Moby.  I don't even know exactly what it looks like but assume some sort of single bolt 'P' bracket that mounts to the fan shroud.  Looked online for a replacement but not listed anywhere.  Does anyone have a pic of one or better, one that they would be happy to part with?

VW was experimenting with electric vehicles as early as 1972 and up to the early 1980's and even had a swap in swap out battery pack.  See full story below.

  Back to The Forge........
Posted by: Oldman - 01-03-2024, 05:34 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (10)

Just returned from another 2 1/2 day stint at Tharwa valley Forge.....
I took down the remaining folded steel/damascus billet that I brought home from my first visit.
After a lot of thinking, I decided to make 2 Outdoor knives, one each for my two son's.

Each blade has 704 layers made up by Forge welding alternate layers of 1075 steel and 15N20 high Nickel content steel.
The billet started as 11 layers and was forged and folded 6 times resulting in the final material to make the blades....
Handles started as blocks of timber, Bolsters/Guards started as a blocks of brass.......

Needless to say there is a LOT that goes into these blades and I'm stoked with the result:

Blade 1 - For Kim - he's a left hander :

Blade 2  - For Rowan - (he's normal  Tongue)

I can't speak highly enough of The Forge.....and I know I'll be back for another sweat session !!

  Clubbed by a Kombi
Posted by: Geoff1369 - 01-03-2024, 06:48 AM - Forum: New Member Welcome - Replies (10)

G’day. 3 weeks into a Kombi project and much wiser than before. I started with shell. Kilos of rust cut out and nearly finished with that side of things. I thought joining your club might be a sensible thing to do as I have many questions forming in my mind. Geoff.

  Vale my M.I.L

My mother in law was the greatest supporter of her/our family. Her grandchildren & our blended family with a few extra daughters. She passed peacefully today after a fall last December that saw a hip replacement & a thigh bone rebuild.
Not surprising the outcome!
Weep with me for she was most loved  Angel . I will miss her greatly. 94 years young!

Funeral next Wednesday.

  Kombi to go EV
Posted by: T1 Terry - 25-02-2024, 11:44 AM - Forum: Resto Corner - Replies (9)

As I've posted somewhere else, not sure where, I've purchased a salvage MG4 with the intention of transferring all the EV stuff to my '74 kombi with the very distinctive name of Kombi.
The plan it to do all the install stuff till I get it drivable as an EV, then stripping it back out and getting the body sorted.

Here are few photos of the donor MG4

The start of the fun stuff will be finding how to mount these bits

This is the brake M/C, power booster and anti lock brakes and maybe traction control along with the emergency stop ... a complex set up that I'll explain later

This is the steering rack. Electrically driven, uses a torque sensor to determine how much assist is required and part of the dreaded self steer that will be a function I won't be keeping

There is another photo but I'll need to start another post

T1 Terry
