  Passenger Seat
Posted by: Mark D - 24-02-2024, 11:08 AM - Forum: Body - Replies (18)

Hi all, still working on the wheel tubs of my '72 lowlight. About to move onto the passenger side and, as you can see, it's been pretty badly butchered. So I was hoping someone could show me an image of an unmolested wheel tub so I can get a bit of an idea of what it's supposed to look like. i.e. seat mounts etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

                                                         Mark

  34 PICT 3 re-build advice please....
Posted by: Oldman - 19-02-2024, 08:11 AM - Forum: Fuel System & Electrics - Replies (19)

Hi all, trying to get to the bottom of the (non) idle issue on my son's '71 DP 1600......stock Solex 34 PICT 3 .
Last weekend I pulled the carb., thoroughly cleaned it and put a kit through it hoping that it'd assist with idle.
It didn't. It starts first kick, runs on choke - no issue and drives beautifully.....but will not idle.

There are a couple of q's that I'd like input on, please......

1. There are two captive BB's in the body of the carb.
I was reluctant to release/free these and left them as is. ie didn't clean them.
Do these have anything to do with the idle circuit ?

2. The Main jet and Idle jet did not have O-rings on them but have a shoulder that (to me) looks as though there should be O-rings in place.
    I put O-rings on both.
Should I have ? - The Carby Kit did not have O-rings in it other than for the Idle /air adjustment screw ( the larger of the two).
The replacement Mixture screw had an O -ring already on it.

I'm going to pull the carb down again tomorrow and check if I've missed anything, so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Advice and / or Coffs Area Mechanic
Posted by: Little Yellow - 18-02-2024, 01:59 PM - Forum: Engine & Transmission - Replies (19)

Hi all.

Set off yesterday on the first day of a planned couple of weeks up in Northern NSW.  Made it from our home (Sydney) to a friend's at Sandy Beach (Coffs Harbour) yesterday - 550km.  No trouble at all until we were about 30km from our destination when we started missing or jumping a bit, typically rolling on the power to get up a hill.

Power seems down quite a bit down, still able to cruise at 90-100kph on the flat on a light throttle with no apparent issue, but instantly starts to cough and jump when rolling the power on to get up an incline.  The miss / cough is usually accompanied by a "bop" noise from the exhaust.  No other unusual noises, but its pretty bad when it starts to happen.
The problem didn't seem to come on gradually - all was fine - until suddenly it wasn't.

Since the rest of our trip needs about another 1000km of driving things aren't looking so good...

Any thoughts on what the issue might be?
How much damage am I doing by driving it further?
Anyone recommendations for an aircooled mechanic in/near Coffs or Woolgoolga area?  Or Byron/Lennox Head if we're daft enough to try and push on...

Many thanks,
Phil

What a wonderful turnout & day raising funds for the Iris Foundation. A few pictures to show it happened. Rain was predicted but stayed away. A great job from Mrs & Mr Beckstar Big Grin .attachment=5557]
Second awning from the RHS. Took it for the predicted rain & needed it for the shade!
Great catch up with some KCA members.
Cheers

Folks, due to unforeseen circumstances Sue & I will not be able to make Bus Stop 2024 - Merimbula.

Really disappointed, but the circumstances are out of our control and will not change .....
Hope you all have a safe trip, a wonderful Bus Stop experience and an easy return home.

Please remember to post up pics and stories so that other non-attendees can get a sense of the fun that goes with our Kombi Family.
