  Sound Deadener
Posted by: Mark D - 15-11-2024, 03:29 PM - Forum: Interior - Replies (6)

Hi all, just got a coat of paint on the interior of the bus, and started thinking about sound deadening. I will be using adhesive mat on the vertical panels and the roof, but I'm not keen on adhesive for the floor, as it tends to trap moisture in my experience. So I was curious as to what you all use. As far as I can see the only options are a spray on, or a thick carpet underlay.....also not quite sure what I want to do with the parcel rack at the back. Any advice welcome, thanks,

Posted by: BrisyGeorge - 11-11-2024, 05:38 PM - Forum: Fuel System & Electrics - Replies (8)

My alternator tensioning bolt worked loose and there was a lot of slack in the belt. Can`t find anywhere that tells me how to tighten the belt and how tight it should be.

Can I  be either pointed in the right  direction re finding the relevant post of get a quick lesson in alternator  belt tightening please.

BTW its a type 4 motor.

Thanks

Hi everyone
New member here in Darwin.  I recently bought a 1976 T2 Transporter minus a motor and interior in pretty rough condition but not very rusty and not in any difficult spots.
We had Kombis when I was a kid in the 80's and have pretty much driven north, south, east and west in them around the whole country but this is MY first one and I'm very happy to have it.
I paid $2000 for it and can't remember the last time I saw one for sale within 500km of Darwin so jumped when I got the chance.
Anyway, just saying hello and starting to browse the forum.
Cheers
Chris

  Brake warning light wiring
Posted by: Crankster - 03-11-2024, 10:58 AM - Forum: Fuel System & Electrics - Replies (19)

OK gurus, I'm trying to make sense of the brake warning light on my 75 Bay.  I noticed a stray brown wire hanging under the dash, traced it and it runs into the back of the warning light. From the length of it, I assume it plugged into the earth 'crown' on the back of the instrument cluster? Is this correct.  I found this wiring diagram from https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto...p?t=671874
It shows it as a switch. Mine appears to be just a light.
Do the aussie cars have a different setup?

  No power under accelartion
Posted by: Kings - 01-11-2024, 03:08 PM - Forum: Engine & Transmission - Replies (14)

Had our 1975 T2 for a while now, and since May, it has not been driving great.
1. Started reving really high in idle once been driving for a while to the point of having to stop, seemed to get better on its own accord but just comes and goes now.
2. Been driving very sluggish for a while, will sit at 80 but struggles to get there, and surges(think that's the best term) through the gears if foot not right down. Struggling with hills more and more.
3. Today will not drive off unless pumping the accelerator. Cuts out with normal pressure on the accelerator. Starts first time and will idle OK(although a bit rough)  Took it for a drive and completely died on a uphill. Managed to get it started to turn around to head home, but even on the flat in first gear no acceleration. Also when accelerating it is back firing a bit.
New spark plugs and cables fuel filter etc fitted a few months back.
Checked all pipes and connected apart from the vacuum hose of the distributor which a few people have not been able to find a home for it. Normal place has been capped off.
Just looking for any ideas as i am at a lost, hope the above makes sense.

  Sliding Door catch shim
Posted by: baliboy.schroeder - 28-10-2024, 01:36 PM - Forum: Bay Tech Clinic - Replies (6)

Hi All ,
Just wondering if your Kombis ( mine is 1975) have a shim behind the sliding door catch ?

I have , and wondering what would be the functional purpose of having one.

If I removed mine, would it closed better ?

Your thoughts before I get the tools out .

Regards
Klaus

  Battery Light
Posted by: WorkInProgress - 25-10-2024, 05:35 PM - Forum: Fuel System & Electrics - Replies (11)

G’day all, forgive my ignorance but I have a quick question (hopefully!)

Driving along today, everything fine. All of a sudden, battery light comes on, no indicators, fuel gauge not working. Van itself drives perfectly. Battery is 3 months old. Suggestions? Fuse maybe or something more sinister? Any help gratefully appreciated.

New Repro T3 alloys from GoWesty
Posted by: sealyb - 24-10-2024, 02:28 PM - Forum: T3 Tech Clinic - Replies (2)

Saw this come across my inbox today. 15, 16 and 17 inch.

These GoWesty wheels are based on the original VW German-made 14" x 6” aluminum alloy wheel that was a factory option for the Vanagon. After years of requests from the community, we are thrilled to offer these superb quality, high-pressure die cast (HPDC) aluminum alloy wheels (which also work for the 1970-79 Bus models!).

We painstakingly reproduced every detail of this iconic design, right down to the original Volkswagen Diamond Metallic Silver (L97A) paint code! They have the correct bolt pattern and 23mm offset (“ET”) to mount without any modifications to your Bus or Vanagon, and they are properly load-rated at over 1800 lbs each—more than enough to handle the most heavily loaded vehicle. No special hardware, wheel spacers, or adaptors are required. Our GoWesty wheels bolt on exactly the same as the original German 14” alloy wheel.
Simply put: The same iconic design, but scaled up in sizes to accept readily available, modern, and more cost-effective tire sizes!
