Great to hear !!
(....bad pun intended...)
Ernst were OEM for older VW's and it's great that they are still available at a reasonable price.
Cheers,
Mark

Sorry to hijack your post, glad to hear you got the job done.
I’ve got a question for the brains trust here, my van has always been fairly loud since I’ve owned it and the exhaust vibration/noise resonates through the cabin and is quite annoying.
Does this sound like the muffler might need replacing ? I know it’s not the original muffler as it’s says on it “made in Australia” but I have no idea when it was installed.
Also it’s not currently mounted back to the block with the silencer straps. It had some crap custom made bracket when I got it which was snapped so I removed it. I’ve bought a bracket and strap and had it mounted to the body to stop it wobbling but that made the vibration terrible. I can’t seem to find out how it’s supposed to mount back to the block or any hardware to purchase for this purpose.
I’ve also had issues with exhaust leaks but ive more or less sorted them. The system has come off a few time while I’ve done head gaskets and I also took it off the sand it back and paint.

Do you have a 1.9 or a 2.1.
Only difference is the catalytic converter.
Anyway…… grab a tennis ball ant stick it over the exhaust pipe.
Your motor should die.
I reckon yours will keep running meaning you have leaks.
Now - you can see the straps holding my muffler.
In the 2nd and 3rd shots you can see the bolt where the bracket bolts to the body.

Bracket

I reckon it would be a bitch of a job
Not difficult - just access and stuff.
Would be a whole lot easier on a hoist.
The straps are not the best quality
One of the bolt hole bits that are welded on one of mine is starting to seperate.
Not sure why it couldnt just be one piece?
Check out Brickworks for parts as well
https://brickwerks.co.uk/product/exhaust...-2wd-left/
But I now see they have a different set up that looks a whole heap better.
Strap bolts on and no welded bits.
Why there is a $40 AUS difference between left and right has me stumped??

Have a look at this video.
About half way you can see him fitting the muffler to the brackets

There is a single strap bracket, that was missing in the shipment, but arrived after the install, and was fitted soon after.
Hard to photograph at this time of night……but you’ll get the idea!
