Is the plate that attaches to the floor moving?
Please post a picture of the back of the pedal as they differ by year.

Is there meant to be a circlip that holds the pin in?

Thought they had a spring clip hold the rod across the floor to the rod from the pedal. Does the rod from the pedal have a groove around it, about 3mm from the end. If so you need a spring clip, I can take a photo of the clip I’m talking about.
There are a few different style pedal assembly’s.

The base is not moving but the pedal is, there is a small wire on reverse
that has possibly broke or come lose?

Yea there are small grooves on each end, something has clearly come loose but I’m not sure what?

I'll take a photo tomorrow of the clip that I think should be on the rod.
Also to check the pin that hold the pedal to the floor plate either the pin is rusted or broken and also the bottom of the pedal curled section that holds the pin can starts to open up and the tension on the pedal to pin is lost.

+1 Wayne
The spring you refer to is probably the pedal return spring 211-721-549/A and can be seen in the correct position wrapped around the retaining pin.
Looking at the photo, it appears that the pedal mount has broken?

It also appears that the pedal may be missing the RHS curled section that Wayne is referring to?

Note that the early retaining pins had a centre grove about 1cm long (211-721-629/A), but the later ones did not have the groove (211-721-629/A).
