Other panels above engine in other years was made more out of a Masonite style board and most look worse for ware after 50 years, if they are still on the car. Earlier bay panels above engine is also a different shape as in72 the engine bay changed shape.

  Mine's made of metal, so a clean-up and coat of paint should do the trick. The insulation above though appears to be wrapped in some sort of cellophane (from what I can see through the perforations) and looks to be burnt or blackened in some places which is why I'm thinking of replacing it. Didn't get around to pulling it out this weekend as I'm moving house, and I'm scared to think how many kombi pieces are going to get lost in the move.......
