What type of paint did you use, to adhere well enough to a steering wheel, and not wear off with use?

I just used a pressure pack black.
Seems to have lasted OK

Hey Kiwi
It's a bit of "suck and see" experience.

The Q Bond is just powder and glue.
You need to open the cracks enough to get the powder in there and when it is too big, you need to "form work" it with masking tape.
Then sanded back

A couple more pics.

I had an issue with the new TMI door skins getting wet.
I replaced them with Australian Door Card' ABS ones.
They only came in black.
This time I sprayed with a flexi prime and then an off white / beige

I will put the TMI's back on one day.
Basically the got wet and the corner fell to pieces one day when I needed to change a door handle.
Gotta love advances with T3's.

  1. The corner vent grille is separate to the door card and you dont break the corner (I still have no idea what the grille does?) 
  2.  You can change a door handle with out taking the inside skin off (seriously - what were they thinking the first time??)

At the moment I am just loving how rugged the ABS cards are and I dont think they look THAT bad?

Now ALL window rubbers have been replaces
The flippers gone and the middle sliders in.
The rear driver flipper was replaced with a solid new bit of glass.
I was offered an OG piece from Tintop (thanks) - should have taken it.
I thought the hassle and all of getting it, it would be easier to get a new piece.
The new one was a couple of mm over sized.
It was over Christmas a year or 2 ago - and about 110% humidity and 40*C
It was a BITCH to get in.
The old one was out. Had cut the rubber.
There was no going back.
The amount of huffing and puffing and shoving and swearing...................
Damn those beers went down easy when it was finished

So from what you said... note to self original solid glass is a good idea. Now I'm happy. 
And the sliders do look good in the middle windows. But I only have to replace the flipper in the side door with one some nice fella sent to me.

OK - it’s play time.
I have been squirreling away a few dollars here and there, and before I retire in 18 months or so, I am going to get a new motor. [Image: clear.png][Image: clear.png][Image: clear.png]
Nothing really wrong with the old one - just tired.
Clutch, carbs, alternator, pump all show signs of wear and add a few leaks here and there.

As we all know, the number of "good" engine builder is getting few and (very) far between. 

Steve Natoli used to live 200 m down the road - but has moved to Landsborough, Qld and set up a VW shop.
He worked as engine builder pretty much all over the place, here and overseas.
He was last at Matt Berry’s Air Cooled Garage in Cooroy

A few weeks ago I went on a road trip to deliver my bus.

So, a fresh 2L has started with the following
Mahle P&B’s
New heads with 5 angle grind
Ceramic coating to above.
C25 cam
CSP exhaust
CSP manifolds and linkage
New IDF Webers
My 123+ distributor
Ew thermostat

The bus will also get some other loving.
New shocks all round
Rebuilt OG alternator
New hi torque starter motor
One of @rstucke new/rebuilt steering boxes

I’m getting ahead of myself, but I’m getting ready to board a plane to fly to the Sunshine Coast - Landsborough in particular. 
My bay has had a holiday for quite a while. 
It’s a bit like where someone travels off and gets a heap of surgeries done. 
I need to put a list together but it is extensive. 
Just look at my bank balance to work out the definition of “extensive”

But it ranges from a new steering box from Rick to powder coated heater boxes. 
I have seen the dyno sheet and I am very happy

Well, I picked up my bay the other day after it’s holiday on the Sunshine Coast. 
It was up there since July getting it’s new motor and a heap of other things. 
Yes, was supposed to get it back before the new year but there are always set backs. 

Anyway - I am vary happy. 
Steve Natoli from All Things Volkswagen is the bloke that built it for me. 
The additional care this guy goes to is unbelievable. 
A leak down test at assembly to check all the compressions
Pressurising with oil before start up - not just priming it. 

Steve gets new exhaust heat shields made up. 
He also got a new thermostat set up for me. 

He spent a day with the dyno guy to dial it in properly and it’s making good power. 
85 RWHP compared to 70 HP at the flywheel which is about 55 RWHP on a good day. 
Easily sits on 110km / hr now.

Am I losing it, or did you have a 123+ Tune on that engine before its makeover ?
