Layla 1971 Lowlight Microbus
#1
New to the family last week - introducing Layla
She's a 1971 VW Kombi 8 seater
Flipper blue and white
Manual gearbox
1600 industrial engine (engine code prefix 126)
Single port heads
Solex Carb
009 distributor
Standard front, middle and rear seats

Layla will not be seen on the road for a while. Work will be done. I'm looking at swapping out with a 1776 cc engine with dual port heads, oil cooler and a general tidy up inside.

Nice Chris Smile . I'd heard the rumours so it's good you finally fessed up & posted some pics ;-).
Other than engine any other plans? How's the body?
Cheers

Love it...looks brilliant Chris - will be awesome with a 1776.

My old 71 only had a 1641 and it went really well even with a single 34 pict carb

Thanks David. Just bringing Layla all up to a nice standard. The usual stuff; rust, paint, oil leaks, old upholstery, door cards and the like. It'll take a while but we've got Harry for Old Bar etc in the meantime :-)

Congratulations on you new acquisition, It does look like a nice car from what I can tell with the photo's.
Have you thought about putting a type 4 oil cooler in? I've got three out of the four kombis with type 4 cooler in. More work and modifications required to the tinware. Just a thought, In 72 it just fits not shore how much room you have behind the current cooler in a 71.

Thanks for the tip Wayne. Didn't know that was a thing. I'll check it out. I've also got to keep in mind the smaller engine bay air vents.

Nice device. How does the 126 engine go? Have one under the bench as a spare for Carols 70 beetle. Had a bit of a search but found no info on what differences there may be for the industrial devices.
