Whilst VW were making Lowlights…
#1
As VW supplied buses for Europe, the UK and Oz……. The equilvalent in the USA was quite different:

Spotted today out front, a 1970 Dodge, converted to RH drive internally, but with the cargo doors on the RH side, to suit the USA LHD market.

54 years later, current registration, and still running, in very original condition - pretty cool!

Not VW, but just thought it worth sharing to us bus enthusiasts  Shy

Hello everyone,

or something more similar to the VW bus made in the US:
Chevrolet Greenbrier (1961–1965) based at the Corvair with a 2.4L six-cylinder boxer engine in the rear

I always like the old 1970's Ford Transit vans....the ones the GPO used to use as delivery vehicles.
Wouldn't mind one in my stable.

In the September 1961 US based Car Life magazine there was a comparison report between the VW bus, the Ford Econoline and the Chevrolet Greenbriar Sports Wagon called "3 Station Buses"

To quote in the VW section -

"An excellent 4-speed manual transmission (our only test bus so equipped) helps it do a quarter mile acceleration test as fast as the Greenbriar with its Powerglide automatic transmission"

"long uphill grades, however, can become a bit annoying"

The performance tables read

                 Corvair           Ford               VW
0-60mph     32.2              25.8               .....

I didn’t expect an answer, because I spoke in Spaniel, which is understood only by spaniels.

Did the VW only get to 58mph?  Confused

Yep, according to the article's speedometer error section it's doing 57.8 mph when the needle is at 60!
