Yes I did have a diode in before hand as that was required by the instructions.
Hi wayne ,good to hear from you,,,The brand is an SAAS .It is interesting you that you should mention that "re" electronic ignition.
As a chap that David, my son in law, bought a Beetle from told me the self same thing, but what throws me out a bit is why it worked well for a few months before going haywire.
At least NOW I have a possible path to follow towards a solution.
