Hi Cruisers,
Took a quick left lap out of Newcastle last week. Darwin with a coach famil tour & Kakadu then 'The Ghan' railway down to Adelaide. Stops at Katherine Gorge, Alice Springs, Mandura siding for Coober Pedy & then Adelaide & back home.
Awesome experience. Thanks Lauren Smile .

The Ghan is fantastic!

We did it 15 years ago our 25th anniversary.
Since then we have done Indian Pacific and The Canadian.
Sleeping on a train is awesome.
The Ghan is better than Indian Pacific.
IMO the Rocky Mountaineer is rubbish.
Pay all that money to pull in late to stay at an overpriced hotel to be ushered out early.

David, I hope you hit the drinks carriage.
We found there were 2 sorts of travelers.
Those that stayed in their carriage and those that “got into it”.

The scenery on the Ghan was unbelievable.
Food and drinks even better

My wife and I did the Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney with friends and it was awesome, the food, scenery, drinks, commentary and company was unbeatable. We also did the trip from Adelaide to Fremantle and enjoyed it too. When we went on the Rocky Mountaineer our carriage wasn't ready so we were upgraded to the Gold class carriage with the glass roof at the start of spring, this was an incredible experience not to be missed as the thaw was beginning and when we did the return trip on the bus the difference was unbelievable. We will never forget the places that we went and the scenery that we saw (and the million photos that I took to remind us of the beautiful country and people). Canada and the Rocky Mountaineer with a great guide is an experience not to be missed.

Agreed Barry. The scenery was unbelievable.
3 Course meals at every sitting & free drinks Smile .
Was 25 steps from our cabin to the lounge & it seems that if you can walk to the bar they will serve you Big Grin .
The Ghan was worth every $. First class.
Cheers

Barry,
We have done both ways, the 1st trip was from Adelaide to Sydney and the 2nd trip was from Adelaide to Perth, this was not quite as good as the 1st trip for a couple of reasons.
I seem to run out of time each time we are in Sydney but will make an effort in the future but sailing season starts shortly. Tongue Tongue
