Suspension Bushings
#1
Hi all,

Ive got a 1990 T3 Trakka which is going strong, but lately i think the suspension bushings have been getting bad as when i go over bumbs on the roads theirs loud clunking metal on metal sounds. Id say its time for the bushings to be replaced, and hopefully the rest of the suspension is ok..?

My question is do we have any specific bushing recommendations or should i just get whatever a shop recommends? Is this something any suspension shop does or would it be best to take it to an old VW specialist mechanic?

My local is VW spares and repairs in Fremantle WA.

Always go for quality rubber bushes if you can - dont buy the red ones...
Kurt @ vw spares should be able to advise, otherwise you are welcome to call the shop I work at - Motortend Rockingham, we've been fixing vw's for many decades!
Garth

Before you criticize someone try walking a mile in their shoes - that way when you do criticize them you're a mile away and you've got their shoes!

That clunk is a sign of lower ball joint wear.  The rubber can look great but the ball joint can still be shagged especially the passenger side one.  Yes after 30 or more years new bushings will make a big difference.
