Need help!
Getting the rebuilt engine ready to go back in...
What do I need to get to fix the bit inside the red circle?
I currently have nothing on mine (this picture is from another thread).

What do you mean by “fix” ?
Repair/replace or secure….?
Fix means different things to different people….

Adrian is spot on.
There appears to be a slotted stud, washer and nut.
Usually means some kind of adjustment required?

I believe it is the location of the temperature sender for a Fuel Injected system.  Often the later heads have them as standard as there where a lot of FI systems fitted in the US there from 1974.  I cant remember if it is a blind hole or not, but I suspect someone has just fitted a stud in it to close it out.

Someone might like to confirm that.

I have now fitted a dust cover (211-301-289/A) to the gearshift housing as it didn't have one.
Urethane gearshift rod coupling with the gearshift rod coupling screw (111-711-189) secured with lock wire to prevent loosening.
Gearbox is now in storage while I work on the engine ancillaries.

Tappit adjusting screw and lock nut have the right thread pitch (I have them in mine)

There is a horrible self tapping screw they should come with as he says but honestly if you can get a shouldered bolt that will go through the hole in the gear shifter (I have a few but they are just a little too big without making the hole in the gear shifter rod bigger or turning the bolt down which I will someday) and then fit a washer on each end so it doesn't crush the material and a nyloc nut on the end and you will end up with a much better than original connection.  Attached is the type of bolt I am referring to.  As long as it can't come undone any bolt will work but unless you drill the nut and bolt to wire it or use a nylock nut you wont be able to stop it being too tight with out is coming undone.

Hi Wayne,

Not real sure how that would work, it isn't long enough for a start and there is nothing to hold the bush on the other side but you may be doing something clever with it.  The thing I have seen that come with them is similar to a roofing screw I think with a 8mm or 6mm head and it expands that centre fitting as it winds in.  

Here is a pic of an idea like the shouldered bolt only this one is threaded into the main bolt.
