Heading home
We had a great trip, however we ran out of petrol just infront of the brewery at Yatla.
We were laughing that much we were crying. what to do? We are in RACQ, but Michael insisted to push.
So Michael pushed Grace down the M1 approx 1000m, stacked packed full of stuff and cases of nice wine.
The next thing a car pulls over and has bright orange flashing lights. "Yeah we are saved" I started screaming.
It works out that there a traffic response units (TRU) driving up and down this part of the M1 looking for kombi's. (anyone that needs help)
"So is this how you change drivers in a kombi??? He was an english gentleman, very funny.
Telling us his kombi stories, he wanted to check out GRACE. Any way the next thing he said- u want some free petrol, "FREE" are you playing a trick on us??? I have money I can pay..... FREE I said? Am I getting punked???
No for real what type...... he said grinning from ear to ear...he went to the back of his ute and came marching toward me with a large plastic fuel container. Great stuff... get that petrol funny key thingy honey..... sweet petrol back in the fuel lines.
He was such a cool guy I asked for his card... he said next time, if there was a next time to call that number and he will find us... FREE FREE, not many things are free. I am in the process of writting a letter to thank MainRoads for the service. *Note need new fuel gauge :wtf: * Here he is giving us the kombi wave .....
From Bargearse (Julian):
I was too busy socialising over the whole course of the weekend (my lack of voice was testament to that!) to remember to grab the camera and take pics. I did manage to get a few shots though, so I thought I'd share.
Little Debbie first thing in the morning at our waiting spot in Springwood:
Mel and I first thing in the morning at our waiting spot in Springwood (Little Debbie scrubs up much better than we do at that time of the day!):
Everyone gathered around poor Mercy's second flat of the day barely three kilometres from the Bonny Hills turn-off:
Curtis insisted on the shot again, but this time with his "Paris Hilton" pose:

Here's Pooh doing her best Kombi impersonation attached to the Driveaway Awning:

The view down our street from up near the amenities block:
And unfortunately that's about it from me.
Like I said, this year was very much a social event.
B:lol:
Cheers,

Quote:Just for Stormtrooper I thought I'd pop this little gem up. Spotted in a back yard just outside of Dorrigo
Yes. It is a TARDIS!!!. The guys were out doing their gardening when we drove past and it was all a bit embarrassing...but what can you expect when you have a TARDIS in your garden???!!!
Like Woz, Alice and Necro we caught up with Doc on the way home. I even got a drive of Marley. Nice ride. It's amazing how someone elses bus drives so different to your own. Thanks Doc and Leanne for putting up with us, and with the energetic young one. Such beautiful views from the lookout above Gunnedah.
Finally....a couple to show you why you shoudn't always trust a NAVMAN.
A few km out of Dunedoo..the box that must be obeyed advises / nay instructs us to turn left to Wellington.....a few km down the road we hit this.
30km further along...
Quote:Finally a bit of road (I must admit it was breathtaking countryside though)
This was about 100km from home. It made a speacil bit to the jouirny home, although it was a bit disconcerting that the road we live on disappeared off the NAVMAN to be replaced by a railway line (the railway actually ran along side). I thought her her likes to be obeyed that lives in the NAVMAN was going to have a hissy fit.
And the last one's for Woz. Ther was a bit of rain on Waterfall Way (up to Dorrigo from Coffs). I'm just thankful we weren't travelling a week or so earlier)
Now the next timne someone takes a konvoy up a mountin can we make sure that there isn't one of these? Turning 47 kombis around might have been just a bit too much of an ask
A big thank you to all those that organised such a fantastic weekend. As Kombi Club meet "virgins" we were fairly nervous, but ervryone amde us feel so welcome. It was lovely.
Now, one last thing. Do any other Kombi owners feel like dogs at these events?
It seems that the canine spirit is alive an well with all Kombi owners in that, the first thing they do when they spot a new owner is go round and have a sniff of their bum.
It made me chuckle the way everyone came round, said a few words then popped round the back and popped the engine bay lid.
From Necro (Dave):
Quote:
The door to the crypt creaks open...
A distant barple barple can be heard...
Necro pops his had out and says Hello Kiddies..
What a week, 3019.8 km's courtesy of my new GPS...what a gem those things are...
After a somewhat succesful secret mission, there were a few leaks...I am here to report what a lovely time I had at Bonny Hills. I was full of trepidation before I left, what if I didn't make it? But Lulu behaved herself the trip went smoothly...she lost a pop top spring and her sliding door started falling off, but she did well. She did also lse an eyellid after an oncoming logging truck came close but we recovered that.
We left 10.30am Thursday and arrived 4pm Friday, quite a drive but it was worth every minute to see old friends and hang out again....The surprise on some peoples faces was great and made a secret mission all the more wortwhile.
Scott, I will take Kane's camp fees out of the cost for therapy I am currently undertaking after hanging out with YOUR daughter Laine, My therapist says eventually I will recover but it will take some time to get over being asked by said child, "Are you pregnant?" Hopefully after several thousand dollars and much counselling I will be OK, or as OK as a clown can be.
Judy and Lorraine, it was so good to see ya's, I love ya babes...
So many people, I got to renew old friendships, make new ones..I hope I got across how happy I was to see everyone while I was there because it would take ages to express it here. I loved every minute, even the torturous my seat hasn't been reupholstered in thirty years and I have been sitting in it for forty hours minutes one might have on such a drive.
It reaffirmned to me why Kombi Club is here and why it is so grand...
So here I am posting again...
It's good to be back.
PS. Thanks for the pics, I am loving them....all of them except the one where I am standing there in a green singlet with Jedda looking pregnant....Hmpf!!!
