To all members of the Kombi Club
As many of you who probably know by now our father, Chris Taylor, passed away on Wednesday 28th August at 4.39 pm. He has endured a lot over the years. Tongue, lung and prostate cancer, the recent heart bypass along with radiation and chemotherapy as well as the loss of our mum back in 2019, all of which he excelled beyond all expectations by family, friends and the doctors. So many hurdles, but he just jumped over them and pushed on.
Back in June, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, and he overcame that reasonably well, but unknown to everyone, it never cleared up properly. On Thursday 15th August he was back in hospital with breathing difficulty from the pneumonia and was discharged the following day, however he was admitted again on Monday after the weekend. The pneumonia wasn’t clearing up, and a CT scan revealed cancer on his liver and lymph node. Last weekend he was told that his race had finally run. The final hurdle was set too high for him, and dad passed away peacefully.
What some you may not know, it was 5 years to the day on Friday August 30th that mum passed, two days after dad left us, and although dad's wish was to go on the same day, it wasn't to be.
On behalf of my sister Carolyn, her husband David and myself, we would like to thank everyone for giving him so many wonderful memories of which he shared with us and thank you to everyone for the kind words and thoughts. He loved catching up most of you when was able to and enjoyed the club trips that he went on. I know he will be missed, but I'm sure he is somewhere up there now, planning his next big kombi adventure, getting ready to tear the road up once again.

Beautifully said Shaun.
I have no doubt Chris is sitting alongside Peter Josling and Tangles (both passed) recounting kombi adventures with much fondness.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Chris.
Our sincere condolences to you and your family Shaun.
What a privilege it was to have known such an interesting and warm man like Chris.
Like the other members, we will treasure our gear shift knob he so kindly made.
Keep cruising up there mate.
You will be missed.

Such a wonderful caring man, he loved being a part of Bus Stop Strathalbyn 2023. Helped me so much on who to contact we had many interesting phone calls. So sad to hear we wont see him again in a Komvoy but know he'll be with us in spirit, Hope he & Peter are enjoying their Kombi stories.

Many thanks for your post, and great pics….. you are indeed a “chip off the old block”.
Your dad was family here, and will be sadly missed.
You and Carolyn are of course welcome at any upcoming events, to have a “chinwag” about your wonderful old man.
Trust the celebration of his life, at his funeral goes well for you and the Taylor family, and is the way he wanted it.

My condolences go out to your family, I was privileged to have spent some time with Chris at various Bus Stops. He always had a kind word and time for everyone.

My Condolences to the Taylor family, This is really sad news to here, he was one of them true gentleman of this world. He had all the time in the world for people to either advice or talk to at various events that he travelled to. My first meeting was travelling up to Stanthorpe for my first travelling bus stop. it will always be a memorable chat that we had in our first meeting together, he will be sorely missed in the Kombi world. He was also a very hand person from repairing is own kombi to making is own wood lathe and I donated my first ever woodturning chisels, as I knew how much he would apricate them.

Just wanted to share that dad (Chris) was laid to rest on Friday along with mum, as it was his wish to have mums' ashes in the coffin with him. So, they are reunited once again and buried at Lobethal cemetery in the Adelaide hills.
I thank you all for the kind words you have posted, really means a lot.
