the hard finish clunk on one side and not the other may be the adjustable stops on the beam stopping the bell crank from allowing the pitman shaft from hammering the steering box housing at its end

Wow...thanks for reminding me. I'd totally forgotten to replace the bolt stops on the beam when I rebuilt it. Both locks feel good now. Many thanks,
