Seems a bit of a cheat to do a Sunburnt Express blog when it’s up on the trailer but I am going to!
The Prep and Pack Up began in our heads a lot earlier than Tuesday but with work, last minute vehicle Rego for movie props, school and our Central West Car Club car show on the weekend before, we got loaded and packed the night before! (In the routine we are most familiar with). The house and dog sitter arrived and took over for us and we got on the road.
First essential stop was all of 9km down the road at the ‘Prov’ for a coffee for Dno in Millthorpe.

Lunch at the ‘Road Kill Grillz’ and obligatory silo photo at Weethalie.

Love your recounts Hayley………
Gotta ask, what is the purpose of this expedition?
Caught Deano at Old Bar on his bike……was great to see his smiling face again.
Cheers,
Mark

Heading to Adelaide for the Bay to Birdwood event but also a few other reasons which will become apparent ?. Stay tuned for more updates ?
From the website for those that don’t know about Bay to Birdwood….
The iconic Bay to Birdwood is one of the world’s great historic motoring events and has been a standout fixture on the South Australian events calendar since 1980.
Thousands of spectators line the 67 kilometre route to view the passing parade of historic motoring from West Beach through to the National Motor Museum at Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills. Held annually, the Bay to Birdwood is a citizen-collector historic motoring event that draws participants from around Australia and the world to celebrate all things vintage vehicles.

I tried to get a photo of the first Adelaide road sign we came to and got it…. sort of…… Made Dno pull up for the next one ?.
Pulled over on the Hay plain (biggest flattest area in the southern hemisphere) after we started hearing a noise and feeling a slight vibration. One of the wheel bearings on the trailer was on the way out, so traveling prepared Dno changed out the inner bearing. I took up my normal roll of assistant mechanic, photographer, nature watcher, boredom buster, mum and nurse.
Yes, Tess stacked the scooter off one of the concrete truck dividers and scraped up her hand and knee. Dno finished finger packing the bearing with grease only to realise it was a Ford bearing not Holden (no wonder it failed). Luckily he has put both sets in the spare parts department box so we where covered. Reverse, repeat and repack and on the road again in 40 minutes. We made it to Julie and Dads at Robinvale for a lovely meal and soft bed. But not before having to negotiating the very narrow gateway with the ‘help’ of the nextdoor neighbor who didn’t speak much English!! Anyway after negotiating some closely parked cars, jumping the curb and doing a 20 point turn Dno got it in with an inch each side to spare. Just what you need after a 10 hour journey!
