Hello all. looked in the van the other day and found that the clock was not working but the temp and fuel gauge were, so is this problem a wire issue or something else . regards petersbilt.PS. update on my rear end seal which I had fixed new clutch old one had 30/% left .still a clicking sound coming from base of the gear stick when I change frome 1st gear to 2nd gear and after a bit of travel it warms up and no sound . do you think a bit of grease some where in that steelbox thats under the gear stick . thanks petersbilt.

Peter

Unfortunately, not a simple answer.

More than likely it is to do with the crappy blue film.
or it could be the clock itself.
Repairing wont be cheap.
Easiest answer is to get a new cluster from a swap meet.

There are hard wire upgrade kits

thanks barry . what is the crappy blue film and is it an auto electrical job ? and could it be a fuse ?.

RE: clock in the t3 transporter - Grantus - 15-08-2024

The “crappy blue film”, is the printed circuit sheet VW coated our T3 dashes with, to power up the dash pod and its components.

Probably not designed for Australian summers, and does tend to get brittle and have issues as it ages.

Lift off your dash pod lid, and you’ll see it surrounding your brake / clutch fluid bottle.

Fuse No 3 (from the left) is the 15amp fuse for the clock, so worth checking that one first.

Morning Peter,

I have got a good blue film in Geelong in case yours is shot. I may also have a clock in my parts stack. What year is your T3?

Cheers
Arne

RE: clock in the t3 transporter - petertuite - 04-10-2024

HI All . Last month i put in a question about my clock not working on my 1990 T3 transporter . Have found a person who can maybe fix the problem , which is a real fiderly job . And has quoted me between $400 and $600 dollars to fix and I am thinking a bit on the steep side . But is this a reasonable price for this and if its not fixed is this a sign of more problems in the cluster of clock and fuel gauges in the future . so any thoughts out there you brainy V.W. people. regards and best wishes petersbilt.
