RE: What awning - Ted79 - 11-01-2023

I just installed a Kings awning. Attached to the pop top for extra height. I replaced the hinges with Darche flexible hinges from Tentworld. Works a treat.

Wow ! Had no idea such a beast exists  Huh
Would’ve saved me a 5hitload of time and expense, had I known.
Still, I’m happy with the mod. and I know it will never fail…..

I’ve just replaced the fixed aluminium pole hinges with the Darche Super Flex hinges, on my rear awning.
Easy swap over. Rather than using a rivet to secure them to the poles, I pre drilled the polymide and used a couple of self tappers. Works perfectly.
They are available from a number of outlets, I use Snowys Outdoors :

There is a length of sail track joined to the pop top . The nice thing is the king side wall  comes with the rope edge that slides straight in. In will take some more photos of it this coming weekend

Consider a set of Rhino roof bars…….you can the mount the brackets directly to the bars and leave your tin top intact…..

We tried lots of methods, the sail track and pull through canvas, extendable poles to make it rigid to the van worked great ... unless you wanted to move the Kombi. We ended up with a pop up gazebo we built, then later an off the shelf from Anaconda or similar, 3 mtr square, the legs lift it above the poptop fully raise yet the Kombi can be driven out with the poptop down and the popup gazebo still in place securing your parking spot ..... a bit of creating driving and you can park it back into place. In a secure friendly area, you can even leave the table and cooking gear along with chairs set up and all that stuff that needs to be removed to make this living inside comfortable yet a must have when camping up for a while. Add a screen wall or two and it becomes fairly wind and rain proof as well.

We are fans of the gazebo set up too - walls can be added for privacy and the ability to drive away works.
