What appliances do you carry/use in your kombi….?
#1
As the title suggests, what do you use to prepare your meals when on the road ?
We travel with a fire pit, cast iron plate and camp oven.
It’s awesome in places that allow fires but that’s not realistic, all the time.
The kombi has an internal two burner and grill gas stove that we can use but rarely do.
It comes in handy if the weather is really 5hitty and we’re all closed up but thankfully that’s pretty rarely.
Our go to, when on a powered site, is a small electric frypan.
It’s awesome and incredibly versatile……from basic frying, toasting bread etc. to making risotto, fajitas etc.. There’s not much that Sue can’t cook on it and it’s permanently onboard.
For coffee , I use an IZ Presso manual grinder for the beans and a ROK manual coffee press to pull the shots. A small electric kettle and a milk heater/frothier (electric) provides the necessary froth for Sue

……and a three way Electrolux fridge covers all bases, partnered with a Dometic 55l esky for fluids  Big Grin
For many years of kombi travels, we’ve tweaked what we carry and reckon we have it pretty well sorted out….

What do you use ?
Cheers,
Mark

just a 2 burner butane stove on a table outside

this pic was during 5 days of rain at Burrill Lake .. extra fly on the drive-away awning to give better shelter over the stove etc.

Best thing we ever bought was an Evacool 45 L fridge.
No more lettuce floating in melted ice.

We have a gas Companion BBQ.
I don’t like the disposable cartridge set ups

For cookware we have
A billy
2 x cast iron pots
1 x cast iron pan

For coffee - an Italian espresso cook top

Fire pit is an essential.

The other thing I use are a couple of cast iron baffle irons.
Take a bit of work and you need to pre cook you poached eggs.
But matched with home made baked beans and grain bread - heaven at 7:00 am

We survive on a lot of stews and pastas muted with the occasional sausage

Shmett is a basic tin top tent fitted out many years ago. Permanent double bed and some cupbords with storage under the bed. Water is a 4L or 2L plastic cotainer depending on isolation. Cool storage is an Esky of some sort. Cooking depends on power availabe. With power we use an electric wok. One pan cooking is the aim. Electric jug and a toaster complete the kitchen devices. If off grid out comes the old 2 burner gas cooker. All cooking and wash up is outside with a plastic basin on a fold-up table. If we are travelling when its cold a small blower heater is include but rarely used. A hot water bottle is Carols friend to warm feet. Keep it simple and keep it light. Oh? And a coffee plunger!
