EV Restos
#1
Hi everyone
Probably sacrilege to some, but an EV transformation in 5-10 years maybe the way to keep our Kombis on the road. I have been following the projects of this Melbourne company Jaunt who are doing a Kombi resto: https://fb.watch/s0S4x3nPC0/?

The build by Jaunt looks amazing and is clearly a quality build, thanks for sharing the link.

I gave serious consideration to going electric for my kombi, but in the end decided to fuel inject and include a flex fuel sensor. This gives me the option to use any octane fuel including E85.  I see this as a good middle position before going full electric.  Typically, E85 has a lower net carbon footprint than just running regular fuel and with the bonus that some of the money spent on fuel goes to Australian producers of ethanol. The install is still work in progress, but hopefully a startup next month.

I was in traffic with a tidy looking beetle the other day, and looking across at the driver and dash, noticed a bunch of aftermarket switches………

When behind, I noticed the rear ACT rego plates had a blue triangle “EV” in the middle.  Shy

I'm putting it together, with my son.  Hopefully engine install next week, then finish the electrics (melding the new computer, sensors etc with the bus electrics.  Fingers crossed engine start a week after that.
