Engine fire that spread I reckon

Sad

RE: Kombi Fires - DavidH - 29-12-2023

I reckon it was a petrol fire (fuel line) as you can see even after it's out they still need to hose under the back where the fuel line is as it continues to burn there.

A fire is bad enough
Losing your van completely - devastating.
At Christmas time - the would just be gut wrenching.

Hope they had adequate insurance.

Insurance may replace the money but can't replace the ongoing memories Sad  of enjoying a Kombi camper!

I'm an advocate for ensuring the engine is meticulously maintained and inspected regularly before tipping money into bodywork & paint.
Sadly, many do the opposite.
Always sad to see a kombi cremation........

Just an note to say the Blazecut is a good product, but it is a one shot.  Brilliant for a knock down but not necessarily stop the fire. Once it has gone off, if the engine hatch is opened for example, and there is still enough heat for reignition the fire will start again and you will need at least another extinguisher to finish the job.

It is not an excuse to skip on maintenance, fit an electric fuel pump without a solenoid and tachometric relay, check your fuel lines regularly etc etc.  And the thing to remember is even if you do all that, you may still have a fire, but you will be in a better position to combat it and limit the damage.

I've got FI so as soon as there is 'no air flow' the potentiometer stops my electric fuel pump from 'feeding the fire' because the Air Flow Meter records no air flow & shuts down the electric pump as it knows the engine is not operating & doesn't need other inputs like fuel!
Keeps it real safe Wink .
Had a few Kombi fires Adrian so have some idea of what happens. Love the security of the Blaze cut.
Got the spare extinguisher also inside the sliding door!
Just in case.

Cheers
