SSP Fuel Pumps - Oldman - 21-06-2023 Hi all, the mechanical fuel pump on my bus (Type 4, 2ltr.) is starting to weep a little.... I've tried finding re-build kits to no avail. Just wondering if anyone has used and can recommend these replacement pumps by SSP ? https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/au/021127025b-ssp-mechanical-fuel-pump-1700-2000cc.html?qty=2 Or, can anyone recommend a fuel pump rebuild kit supplier ? I'd rather not go electric pump air this stage as I really want to try and keep everything stock / stock type systems. RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Barry - 21-06-2023 Mark When I got my bay the original pump was leaking. I put one of those new ones on and........................it was....................OK. It is worth what you pay. Didnt leak as much as what I took out - but still dripped I couldnt find a rebuild kit either When I did the big rebuild, I went electric. Natoli does something similar to what Volks Doktor does. Pump, filter and relays all in a kit. RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Oldman - 21-06-2023 Mmmmm…….food for thought, thanks mate. Any idea of the cost for the kit ? RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - syncro - 21-06-2023 (21-06-2023, 03:03 PM)Oldman Wrote: Mmmmm…….food for thought, thanks mate. Contact Volksdoktor. I think he may rebuild them. RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Oldman - 21-06-2023 Thanks Phill…….would be ideal if he does them exchange …. Will get in touch. RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Mordred - 23-06-2023 I haven't looked at all the prices of late, but for a vane type pump from Pierburg (3-5PSI) it was around $150 although it might be a bit higher now, the Tachometric relay is under $50. Chuck in a Solenoid cutoff valve for around $80, a filter and some relays and wiring adapters and piping that would make it around $350-400 all up in parts if you want to do it yourself. Adrian RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Oldman - 25-06-2023 Thanks Adrian……what I’m not sure about is the required fuel pressure…. Bentley says that a 2ltr should be running at 5 psi….. Can anyone cast further light on the required fuel pressure …please ? RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Barry - 26-06-2023 Mark The Volkswagen "Offical Service Manual" (the blue on that Terry had as a PDF) says dual carbs is 5psi RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Oldman - 26-06-2023 Yeah,, thanks Barry…….that’s what I thought. Those SSP pumps claim 4 psi max. , even though they’re supposed to be suitable for a dual carb. RE: SSP Fuel Pumps - Mordred - 26-06-2023 The Pierburg ones are 5 psi. There is another well known American brand starting with C which are the same as well. They are much better than the cheap rattle pumps too. Adrian |
